Welcome to Aakjaer Furniture, where tradition meets innovation in the world of design. Nanna Aakjær, granddaughter of the legendary furniture designer Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen, has revived her grandfather’s legacy and ushered in a new era of craftsmanship under the name Aakjaer Furniture.

After an inspiring trip through the Swedish wilderness on New Year’s Eve in 2017, it became clear to Nanna that Jørgen Aakjær’s classic furniture designs were too unique to be forgotten. With the full support of her family, she made the decision to restart production of selected Møbelintarsia pieces - reintroducing them to the world under the new name Aakjaer Furniture.

Reviving classic furniture designs

The journey has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. Recreating Jørgen Aakjær’s classic furniture designs required immense dedication, especially since no original drawings were left behind. Throughout this process, Nanna Aakjær has felt a strong connection to her grandfather and his unique design DNA - an influence that has also inspired her to begin designing furniture of her own.

A major milestone came with the launch of her shelf series, Arcus Shelf, which was met with widespread praise and recognition. This achievement has only deepened her passion for furniture design and fueled her motivation to continue creating furniture that is both unique and functional.

Although the road to this point has been challenging, Nanna Aakjær is proud to have re-established Møbelintarsia under the new name Aakjaer Furniture in 2019. She is dedicated to continuing her grandfather’s legacy by creating timeless furniture that honors the past while embracing the future.
