Production and Quality
A great honor to carry on the legacy
It is crucial that quality, production, and materials are of the highest standard - just as they have always been the cornerstone of Møbelintarsia’s success.
From the very beginning, finding the right partner to relaunch the furniture in a timeless and authentic expression was essential. It was important that this partner not only understood the craftsmanship, but also embraced the personal story and passion that inspired the rebirth of Møbelintarsia. Naturally, it had to be a team of skilled, innovative, and meticulous artisans.
Aakjaer Furniture is proud to collaborate closely with the Danish furniture manufacturer Aage Østergaard in Roslev - now operated by the second generation, with more than 50 years of experience in furniture production. This partnership enables us to create timeless furniture classics, grounded in mutual respect and shared values around craftsmanship and material integrity.
For us, it is vital that we share the same vision and dedication to excellence. Through close collaboration, we carefully select the right materials for each product - just as Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen did generations ago.

“My grandfather was a perfectionist, not only in his designs, but also regarding the craft and materials. It is my duty to be just as perfectionist as he was.”
– Nanna Aakjær Svendsen, Granddaughter and founder of Aakjaer Furniture

Old school manufacturing
It has been a challenging task to find carpenters who truly master the traditional craft of intarsia - a meticulous and refined technique that only a few artisans still possess today. Fortunately, the right craftsmen were found, and the furniture is now handcrafted in a small local carpentry workshop in Eastern Europe, where these age-old techniques are still preserved and practiced with care.
Once the furniture arrives in Denmark, it is handed over to our skilled carpenters in Roslev, who complete the final finish. Each piece is carefully inspected, oiled, polished, and branded before being thoughtfully packed and shipped. This two-part process ensures both authenticity and the highest level of quality - just as Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen would have insisted.
“That’s why we do what Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen did 70 years ago. Veneer furniture is a celebration of nature - and, above all, it is true craftsmanship from the moment the tree is planted to the moment the furniture is complete.”
– Nanna Aakjær Svendsen, Granddaughter and founder of Aakjaer Furniture

Crafts from start to finish
We and our partners have great respect for the planet’s resources and are deeply committed to sustainability. That’s why we take pride in using and utilizing every part of the wood.
Because most of the production is done by hand, each piece of furniture carries the subtle imprint of both the artisan’s craftsmanship and the natural character of the wood. These distinctive details make every item truly one of a kind.
We see this not as imperfection, but as incomparable beauty—a reflection of extraordinary craftsmanship rooted in deep respect for nature.

Veneer – Natural aesthetics
The use of veneer in furniture design is closely linked to changing trends. Seventy years ago, nearly all coffee tables, dining tables, and side tables were made using veneer. In more recent decades, solid wood furniture has become the dominant tradition.
Veneer is often associated with being a lower-cost alternative, and over time, this has created a perception that veneer equals cheap furniture. But this is a misconception. In reality, the quality and craftsmanship behind the veneer are what truly matter.
For those who are quality-conscious, veneer offers several advantages. Unlike solid wood furniture—often made from multiple wooden rods joined together—veneer allows for broader, continuous surfaces that highlight the wood’s natural grain and create a beautiful, uniform appearance throughout the piece.
We cherish nature
Many forest owners invest great care and expertise in cultivating high-quality wood species that are particularly well-suited for veneer production. To ensure the trees qualify as first-class, they are meticulously tended year after year - small side branches are removed early to promote straight growth and minimize waste. This approach reflects a deep passion for sustainability and responsible forestry.
One of the key advantages of veneer is its efficiency. Veneer uses less wood overall, as the core of the table tops is made from MDF boards - crafted from leftover and recycled wood materials. This not only reduces waste but also supports a more sustainable production process.
“When small ‘eyes’ appear in our furniture, we consider it a mark of quality and beautiful craftsmanship.”
– Nanna Aakjær Svendsen, granddaughter and founder of Aakjaer Furniture
Wood is our great passion, and choosing to recreate Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen’s classic furniture in Scandinavian oak was an easy decision. Oak is not only an incredibly beautiful species - it’s also strong, versatile, and rich in character. Over time, we hope to reintroduce his designs in a variety of wood types, offering even more options for timeless and personal interiors.
