We have changed our name!

With pride, we present our new name: Aakjaer Furniture.

The new name honors our family's craftsmanship traditions and my grandfather, Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen, whose iconic furniture designs from the 1950s continue to form the core of our collection.

This name change marks an exciting milestone in our journey and reflects both our international ambitions and our deep roots in Danish furniture art. The Aakjaer name carries forward four generations of proud craftsmanship traditions.

Our dedication to exceptional craftsmanship and quality naturally remains unchanged, just as it has been since we started in 1948.

Welcome to Aakjaer Furniture.

Classic furniture brought back to life

The former company Møbelintarsia has been re-established under the name Aakjaer Furniture. Møbelintarsia was founded in 1948 by carpenter and furniture designer Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen and his wife, Lis Aakjær Jørgensen. Together, they dedicated their lives to Møbelintarsia, which quickly grew into a thriving family business.

What the couple could not have known at the time was that nearly 75 years later, their granddaughter, Nanna Aakjær Svendsen, would revive Møbelintarsia with a vision of continuing the carpentry legacy of Denmark’s golden age of furniture design - while blending it with today’s trends and traditions.

Stylish quality furniture with elegance

Aakjaer Furniture designs stylish, high-quality furniture that brings elegance to any home. Rather than focusing on individual pieces or fleeting trends, Aakjaer Furniture takes a holistic approach to interior design with high-quality furniture collections designed to complement one another and create something greater as a whole.

“It is important that our partners share the same values and are dedicated to the highest standards. By working closely with our manufacturer, we ensure the right choice of materials, just as Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen did in 1948.”

The Social House

Design Hub Exhibition

At this year’s 3daysofdesign, we are exhibiting as part of the Design Hub Exhibition at The Social House – a curated group exhibition spanning from classic to contemporary design. Here, aesthetics meet functionality – and the personal meets the professional.

The highlight of this year’s showcase is our modern reinterpretation of the classic corner cabinet – once a staple in Danish homes, now relaunched in a version that honors both the past and the future.

The design is based on original sketches by Jørgen Aakjær and has been translated by Nanna Aakjær into a contemporary piece where form and function merge seamlessly.

We are also expanding the popular Arcus series with two new additions: a mirror and a coat rack that continue the collection’s organic design language and signature profiled edges.

The designer, Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen

Founder of Møbelintarsia in 1948
Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen (1920 – 2008) was a carpenter and furniture designer of the old school. With his journeyman’s certificate from the Danish Technological Institute and a bronze medal for his craftsmanship, he quickly gained recognition. His journey took him to Sweden, where he worked to enhance his skills and learn new techniques in furniture design. This experience helped shape his approach to craftsmanship and design.

Furniture in focus

As a classic craftsman, Jørgen designed directly from head to hands, which meant that each piece of furniture was created with an intuitive understanding of form and function. He was deeply engaged in the execution of the furniture, where the quality of craftsmanship was paramount. Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen’s design DNA is evident in the many small details and the intarsia technique he used, harmoniously combined with the Danish design tradition, where simplicity and functionality prevail.

His legacy lives on through Aakjaer Furniture, where we continue his vision of timeless and well-crafted furniture that carries a story and craftsmanship of which we are proud to represent.
